What do you need to wrestle?
Each athlete should have his or her own pair of wrestling shoes by the start of the season. We have some available to borrow for practice, but there is no guarantee that we will have all sizes. We recommend going to Read's Sporting Goods in Bloomington.
Each athlete should have his or her own headgear. Just like wrestling shoes, we may have some extra for practice, but we do not have enough for everyone. The sooner they can get it the better. Make sure your headgear and shoes have your name on them.
What do they wrestle in for meets?
In Wrestling, we wear singlets. Singlets will be provided for each athlete. They may keep them during the season, but when the season is over, they are required to return the Singlet to the main office. If they fail to return the singlet, they will be required to pay a fee of 45 dollars.
What are our team rules?
Athletes will be under the same rules as they are in school. Rules may be found in the student handbook.
Should I be on top of my grades?
Yes! As coaches, we really push this to our wrestlers. Grades will be handed to the coaching staff at the beginning of each week. If an athlete is failing a class, they are not permitted to compete in practice or meets for the entire week. For example: if a wrestler is told by Coach Denny or Coach Wolfe that they are ineligible on Monday then they may not participate in meets or tournaments Monday thru Saturday of that week. Even if the student stays after school and gets the grade back up to passing, he or she may still NOT compete for the remainder of the week.
How do meets work on a school day?
It is SCHOOL POLICY that all participants ride the bus TO the meet. If the athlete misses the bus (for any reason) he or she may NOT compete under any circumstance. Even if the athlete shows up on their own, on time, ready to go, he or she still may NOT compete. Students may ride home with their parents if they so choose. It is also SCHOOL POLICY that in order to ride home with one’s parents, we need a note provided to the coaching staff written by the parent. THE NOTE MUST ALSO BE SIGNED BY A MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION. That means that if a parent is planning on taking the athlete home with them, they need to have a note signed ahead of time by the administration and the parent. It is too late to wait until Saturday after the meet to decide to take the athlete home.
